Over the past month, Toronto Seniors Housing Corporation (TSHC), in partnership with the Office of the Commissioner of Housing Equity (OCHE), Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), and Service Canada, hosted nine Tenant Pension Clinics in TSHC buildings across the city.
In total, 175 tenants took part in the clinics, showing strong interest and engagement. The clinics were designed to help tenants better understand and access financial supports available as they age, including pension benefits and related programs.
Each clinic included time for questions, giving tenants the chance to get answers and make informed decisions about their financial future. To ensure accessibility, in-person interpretation was available at every clinic reflecting the various language needs among participating tenants.
Sessions also covered the transition from the ODSP to pension income, as well as information about health and dental benefits and application processes.
Service Canada reps also provided one-on-one support at the clinics, helping tenants start applications, update their info, and navigate services. The clinics helped tenants who were unsure about their eligibility due to international residency histories or changing income situations. Staff also shared important reminders about applying early and understanding how income changes may affect rent.
By bringing these services directly into our buildings, TSHC helped reduce barriers and made it easier for tenants to access the supports available to them.
